Award winning scientist, Dr. John Cormier, joins the MTI team as Director of Engineering
MTI welcomes its newest staff member, Dr. John Cormier, to the position of Director of Engineering. In this role John will oversee all activities relating to the testing and mass manufacturing of the company’s products.
Dr. Cormier is an accomplished entrepreneur and industrial physicist, having personally founded two companies in the last 10 years, Picomole Inc. and Valaista Health Inc. During this time he invented LISA (Laser Infrared Sample Analysis) a groundbreaking gas analysis technology. His achievements as an entrepreneur have led to several notable awards including; Grand Prize Winner of the Venture Prize business plan competition, Top 10 Canadian Angel Capital Company, and BioAlberta Emerging Company of the Year. In 2009, John was named one of the Top 50 Most Influential Albertans.

John earned his PhD in Physics in 2002 from the University of Toronto, where he developed novel laser spectroscopic instrumentation for applications in atmospheric physics. Following completion of his graduate work, he was awarded the prestigious National Research Council’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. John brings a breadth of experience having worked in academic, government, and industrial settings. He has also been an invited speaker at several scientific conferences and academic departments in Canada, the United States, and overseas.
John stated,
